Your UAE Wedding Planning Timeline: Month by Month

UAE Wedding Planning Timeline: Month by Month

Planning a wedding in the UAE requires different timing than planning one in most other countries. The vendor market here is competitive, peak season is concentrated (October–February), and cross-border logistics for families add lead time that couples often underestimate.

This timeline covers an 18-month planning window. If you are working with less time, skip to the relevant section — but note which items are high-risk to delay.

18–15 Months Out

Lock in the Main Venue

This is the single most time-sensitive task. Popular hotel ballrooms and event spaces in Dubai fill up for Friday and Saturday dates in the October–February season 14–18 months in advance. Start viewing venues immediately after getting engaged.

Do now:

  • Decide on approximate guest count (this determines venue size)
  • Set a rough budget for the venue
  • Contact 3–5 venues and schedule walkthroughs

Begin Photographer Research

The best wedding photographers in the UAE book out at the same speed as venues. Start reviewing portfolios and shortlisting names even before you confirm the venue.

12–14 Months Out

Book Venue and Photographer

By now you should have enough information to commit. Sign the venue contract and pay the deposit. Book your photographer with a contract and deposit.

Also start:

  • Researching videographers (often bundled with photography)
  • Building a preliminary guest list

10–12 Months Out

Caterer (if not in-house)

If your venue does not include catering, book an independent caterer now. Good halal catering teams with experience in large South Asian events book out early.

Begin Dress Research

Bridal outfits — especially custom or imported lehengas and shalwar kameez sets — can take 4–8 months to produce or source. Start now.

8–10 Months Out

Book Decorator

If using an independent decorator (rather than the venue's in-house team), book now. Top decorators in Dubai have limited availability during peak season.

Confirm Visa and Travel for Overseas Guests

If key family members are travelling from Pakistan, India, or other countries, begin the UAE visa process. Visa processing can take 2–4 weeks; build in buffer.

6–9 Months Out

Book Mehndi Artist and Makeup Artist

Bridal mehndi artists and makeup artists are peak-season limited. Book at least 6 months out, ideally 9. Schedule a makeup trial at the time of booking.

Send Save-the-Dates

Especially important for overseas guests who need to arrange travel and visas.

4–6 Months Out

Finalise Guest List

The guest count you confirm here drives final venue catering numbers. It will still grow by the wedding day — build in 15–20% buffer.

Book DJ or Entertainment

Dhol players, live bands, and DJs popular in the South Asian community book up during peak season. If entertainment matters to you, do not leave this late.

Book Transportation

Airport transfers for overseas guests, bridal car, and guest shuttle (if needed).

2–4 Months Out

Final Outfit Fittings

First major fitting for the bridal outfit. Alterations typically require 2–3 sessions over 6–8 weeks.

Confirm All Vendor Details

Email each vendor to reconfirm date, time, location, and any specific requirements. Create a single document with every vendor's contact, booking confirmation, and day-of instructions.

1–2 Months Out

Send Final Numbers to Venue

Most venues require final guest count 2–4 weeks before the event.

Wedding Day Timeline

Create a minute-by-minute schedule for the wedding day and share it with all vendors, the venue coordinator, and key family members.

Finalise Payments

Most vendors require balance payment 2–4 weeks before the wedding. Confirm payment schedules and mark your calendar.

1–2 Weeks Out

  • Confirm call with venue coordinator
  • Reconfirm all vendors — photographer, caterer, decorator, mehndi artist, MUA
  • Prepare vendor tip envelopes (optional but appreciated)
  • Delegate day-of tasks to specific family members so you are not fielding logistics calls during your own wedding
